DIE STERNTALER 【

My daily life in Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.

Orchetra

****************************

It is a vacation for orchestra between June to August.
My community orchestra takes a rest as well as Dallas Symphony Orchetra.

We have been to concert of Dallas Symphony Orchestra about 3 times.
The hall in downtown is wonderful. It may bigger than the biggest hall in Japan.

Sometimes, tickets get to be discounted just before concert though the seats are good, so we try to get it.
We think it doesn't matter if we can't sit side by side.
When we got cheaper tickets and sat separated, people between us noticed we were couple.
They changed the seats for us! It is likely that we looked like couple because we are Asian.
Occasionally, we are asked if we are brother and sister.

My Japanese violin teacher told me if I had the luck I could take a lesson from the member of Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Little did I dream that I could meet previous CONCERT MASTER of DSO.
Thank god!!

Ms.Midori Goto (very famous Japanes violinist) will come and play with DSO Next season.
I would like to go.

And my community orchestra will resume the practice on September.
I'm looking forward to joining.

These are differences of Japanese orchestra and American orchestra.

[Japan]
1) Players must pay for orchetra every month. In addition  they must pay another money for every concert.
2) Every player practices well.
3) After rehearsal and concert, players go to 'drinking party'.
4) there are 3 or 4 concerts through a year.

[ the US.]
1)players don't have to pay anything.
2) they can use concert hall every weekend.
3) most important thing is enjoying. They are called 'vorunteer players'.
4) after rehearsal and concert, everyone gets back home soon.
5) nobody binds music sheets.
6) nobody has or bring a score when they have a rehearsal.
7) even if not principal players, they often have a question for conductor.
8) conductor has a lot of work. He sets up the hall, makes a schedule, decides bowing of strings.
9) there are 5-6 concerts bitween September to June.

When I could join the rehearsal only two times, I asked concertmaster 'what should I do? Can I join the concert?' She said,' you can decide.' Wow, that is the US.

By the way, a pitch name is called in English in the US.
This is not Germany!
It makes me very confused...
