New semester
学校が始まりましたーーー。
新学期です。
そんなわけで私もESLのレジスターに行って参りました。
こちら、カレッジで行われているESLは月100ドルぐらいで、毎日2時間ほどあります。
私も去年通っていたよ。
でも、午前中は練習という日課になってからESLはやめていたのです。
しかし、外に出るのは大事なので教会の無料ESLにチャレンジしようと思い、昨日近くの教会に出向きました。
私が一番乗りで、簡単な書類を書き、テストを受けました。
このテストが、すごいんです。
1問目。絵を見て答えなさい。
(父母とじじばばが女の子の誕生日をダイニングテーブルで祝っている絵。各人物の下に名前が書いてある)
お母さんの名前は何でしょう？ ' What is mother's name?'
えええ！母ちゃんらしき人物の下にはMaryって書いてあるからMaryだよね？
それともこのばあちゃんが母ちゃんで母ちゃんっぽい人は姉さんとか？
もしくは、母ちゃんと父ちゃんが実は逆だとか？
焦りましたら、選択肢はこのようでした。
A. His name is Mary
B. They name are Mary
C. Her name is Mary
D. She name is Mary
そんなわけで、テストを終えて採点してもらったら満点でした！わーい。
簡単なテストでも満点を取るのは難しい。量はけっこうあったし。
で、先生曰く、あなたはレヴェル4だからconversation classとかの方がいいんじゃない？
私が教えるのはレヴェル1よ。って。
クラスを見回すとスパニッシュを話す人がほとんどで、その他はインドの方々かな。
アジアン0。でもこれぞ私の求めていた状況。
英語はさ、自分で勉強して音楽関係の友達とおしゃべりできれば十分。
私は社会が知りたいの。
だってさ、テキサス内で人口が多いはずのスパニッシュを話す人たちのこと、全然知らないし、
綺麗な服を着ているインドの人もたくさんいるはずだけど(となりの市、アービングというところにたくさんのインドの方が住んでいらっしゃいます)一人も友達いないし、英語ができないと食べていけないって必死に勉強しなくちゃいけない人たちのこと、もっと知りたい。
レベルの高いクラスは土曜日などにあるそうだけど、うーん、土日は気が進まないし、
とりあえず毎週木曜日はこの教会に行ってみようかな。

New semester started in the US.
(It is April when new semester starts in Japan.)
I feel like resuming an ESL class, so I registered the ESL class in the church.
I had been taking an ESL class in the college last year.
It took $100 per month, (I had a class everyday 2 hours)except text books.
It was nice but I dropped out because I started taking the violin lesson.
ESL was held in the every morning, and I had to practice in the morning.
However, I need to go out more.
I took a test for registering in church yesterday.
I was surprised at that test.
1st question was like that.
'Please look at below picture, and chose the correct answer'
(There was a picture which showed me mom, dad, grandmom and granddad celebrated a girl's birthday at dining table. Below each person, there were their name. )
'WHAT'S MOTHER'S NAME?'
?!?!
I could see there was 'Mary ' below mom's picture.
So, I thought her name was Mary. But waht if she would't be mom?
Waht if the person who looked like grandma would be mom?
I was upset.
But I just need to chose the answer from below.
A. His name is Mary
B. They name are Mary
C. Her name is Mary
D. She name is Mary
Eventually, I got perfect score! Yey.
I think it is not easy to get perfect score even the test is very easy. Besides, it was a long test.
Then teacher told me my level was 4, but she would teach level 1.
She recommended me to take a conversation class, but it is held in Saturday.
I don't feel like studying on Saturday.
I looked around the class. There were a lot of people who speak Spanish, and other people looked like Indian. That was I expected.
It is enough to study English by myself and talk with music friends.
I just want to know society and other cultures.
I don't know about Spanish people. Their population are the second largest in Texas.
I want to know about them.
I don't know about Indian people. They wear beautiful clothes.
I want to know about them.
I don't know about people who have to study English to get jobs.
I want to know them.
I'll go to that church every Thursday night.
